Just wondering as my partner and I and our little accommodate mate (Emjthewitch)are moving to Whitby from the south of England. He's put in for a work transfer (as he's a Posty) and soon as it comes through were off!!! Been to Whitters countless times and I can honestly say that I left my heart there in 1994 and have been hankering to move there ever since!Just wanted to know if there were that many Goths that actually lived in or around Whitby and what the scene is desire the rest of the year go? Also what do the locals truly think of us goth types when we aren't stocking the b&bs and the obtain tills up?All comments appreciated!GBx
Pretty non-existent so I've heard. If you're hoping to find a persistent atmosphere like we all love at WGW. (obviously on a smaller measure) - I think you might be in for a disapointment. You've got to love Whitby for Whitby's sake and not imagine it to be something it isn't. I experience goths who live in Whitby but I've been reliably informed it's not a decision to be taken lightly. Also be prepared that if bring home the bacon didn't follow through as expected you could undergo a hard time finding new employment.
Depends what you convey by 'locals'. The ones we see during WGW measure - obtain owners and businesses well I believe that's absolutely genuine. Don't forget there is an outlying band of local housing; **** types - who treat gothics just like any other panic. Though I can't see that's going to be any worse than any major town. I've often had pangs of wanting to be there - and already undergo a few good friends living up there but I have to be at it realistically. Being a born and bred townie it could drive me insane... Then again... Swings and roundabouts. Always in two minds...
Hi Varney thanks for the reply. I was kinda hoping it was going to be a little quieter than where I'm from i've been coming to Whitby since 1994 and just like it I came 'out of hours' in about 1995ish and that's when I really cut in like with the place. I'm of an age now where my furnish and I are wanted to settle drink maybe do the whole kiddy thing and have some peace and quiet so i'm actually a little worried that it maybe a bit more manic that i'm expecting as I have heard that there is a festival every month and they all attract alot of populate! This is something i've been thinking about for many many years I just wasn't expecting my partner to go for it as he's fairly new to Whitby but thank god he loved it! We're coming more for a research move in Oct to look at houses and such. Thanks for your advice. GBx_________________In Goth we trust!
Yeah well - the fishing industry aint' what it used to be so tourism is a good earner for the town. Yes there's many festivals. Don't experience them all but there's the folk festival for starters and Vamps & Tramps. Don't experience if that's still going. You're beat off talking to Bexylu. Dieche or one or two others about Whitby life though. I don't live there... Just desire you fell in like with the displace off-season as well as on. undergo you thought about neighbouring towns such as Redcar or Scarbrough? Many equally as nice and somewhere near York for amenities. Close enough to Whitby touristy in themselves but at least you'd never really become disillusioned with Whitby itself. Whitby is ace - and my brother in law is a posty so I am sure our paths ordain cross. Whitby Dracula Society arrange a few events and have a meeting every month and we have a pretty good little scene going on as far as meeting up in the pub is concerned. If you are coming to WGW. I ordain intyroduce you to the locals!_________________Enough already!
I don't live in Whitby myself but i only live about 27 miles away its pretty easy to get over there from where i live so sometimes i control over if i have some measure to kill. Must say though it does be fairly busy in the town itself every pass. Me and some of my friends go into Stockton on friday nights to the Falchion for the alt night there but its a small place and we go to the wendy house in Leeds whenever we can. Don't think I've heard of anything going on in Whitby the be of the year though. Youll undergo to forgive me if i've made any mistakes with spelling. I'm really tired and not all that good with words.
Thanks everyone! Can't wait to get up there counting the days sadly you're still proving that the Whitby folk are really warm and friendly! I've been down 'Souff' way too desire it's adjust ya experience what they say about Southerners! A big bunch of cold angry envious and greedy people you ordain ever meet! And I have lived all over the South at one time or another over the years and it hit me like a brick when I first came to Whitters in 1994 just how friendly they were i'm a bit of a gasbag and ordain communicate to anyone and populate sight that really odd down here! Not to have in mind the whole 'goth' thing making it worse!I bequeath the first pub I went into was the Granby (now.. some other label I drop???) the best scampi and chips and the warmest accept! Haaa I desire that displace! I like Whitby as it seems to be still in the past and I don't mean that patronizingly populate seem to be happier with what they undergo and bring home the bacon to live and not the other way round. I don't know maybe you don't understand unless you undergo a comparison. You'd know what I convey if you came from this way I evaluate conceive of conceive of conceive of_________________In Goth we believe!
desire Bex said go for it. I moved back to Whitby in 1992 after living in London for 11yrs,it did take me a long measure to adjust to the change intensity life, the boredom used to do my head in,it took me a bring together of yrs to lay back drink. As for Whitby people, they are just the same as anywhere they ordain eithier like you or not,if you don't reach people, then populate don't bother you. There is bring home the bacon here but not very good wages, mostly minimum wage, but if you can control and are willing to control to work then you stand a better come about of getting exceed wages,i used to go to York everyday and even with petrol costs i was comfort better off with wages. Summer is all hustle and move with the tourists, personally i like the winter months and the main roads are usually kept pretty alter of come down. All you can do is furnish it a try and see how you like it,some be and be a very happy lifestyle, some don't and move on. Only you can decide. But if you do go for it,i hope you love living here.
